High School Students Experience History On Wheels

The Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey presents History on Wheels at Lacey Township High School

High school students were able to experience History on Wheels by the Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey.

The program, History on Wheels, consists of a display made up of automobiles representing seven decades.

"The cars lead to discussion about the history of that era. The 60's for example lead to discussing the many high profile assassinations, the Vietnam War, and that gets the kids thinking," said David DiEugenio, Executive Director of the Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey.

Classes viewed the display, which was in the parking lot of Lacey Township High School, during the course of one period.

The owners of each vehicle made a five-minute presentation about the automotive industry during that era and the impact it had on society and the government. The owner also discussed specifics about their automobile so the students can see how automotive technology has progressed.

There were cars as old as the 1896 Quadricycle and as new as the DeLorean stainless steel car, DiEugenio said.

DiEugenio also showed a photograph that he carries in his car- a US Army portrait of his high school buddy. "I went to college and he went to Vietnam, I got old and he never did,” he said.

High school teachers Julie Ferenc and Jesse Fiduccia organized the event.
