High School Football Bleachers Deemed Safe

Repairs were made in time for the game against Barnegat on Saturday, Oct. 8

The football stadium bleachers are considered safe after beeing repaired just in time for the next home game on Saturday, Oct. 8, School District Business Administrator James Savage said.

A board of approximately 6 feet was broken when a spectator stepped down onto the seat at the . The stadium is made up of the original bleachers, constructed in 1981 with a steel frame and wood seating and floorboards.

Since the incident, the school district had Administration then mobilized their repair and maintenance staff to begin fixing areas of the stadium, Superintendent Richard Starodub previously said.

Repairs consisted of basic carpentry. Staff glued and screwed 8 inch wide by 4 foot long, three-quarter-inch thick, pressure treated plywood under the boards of seats.

A professional inspector examined the stadium while the maintenance staff made the repairs to ensure the work they were doing was correct, Savage said.

No portion of the bleachers will be closed off, as the repairs are complete, he said.

The varsity football team will face Barnegat tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Lions are now 2-2, most recently picking up a 9-7 victory over Manchester Township.
