Funeral Services for High School Senior to be Held Saturday

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Riggs Funeral Home at 3 p.m. until the services at 5:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be held for Dan DiFabio on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Riggs Funeral Home.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been released.

DiFabio was a Lacey Township High School senior and was on the wrestling team, according to his obituary. He was a member of the Junk Yard Motocross Crew, American Motocross Association, enjoyed weight lifting and the Barnegat Bay.

Born in Toms River, DiFabio was a lifetime Lacey Township resident.

On Facebook, DiFabio has been remembered as a “sweetheart.” He was known for his smile and humor.

“It truly is heart breaking this happened and I'll never understand it. However, I do know you were one of the best guys I knew,” Nicole Giuliano said on his Facebook page. “Every time we were hanging, we were laughing. You always lit up the room and had the power to bring everyone else up around you. You will never be forgotten. You have touched a tremendous amount of hearts in this town and out.”

Counseling services have been held at the high school for students and parents since DiFabio’s death.

Surviving are his mother and father Beth and Jerry, his brother Anthony, maternal grandmother Doris Thornstrom and paternal grandparents Ann and Dino DiFabio.

Prior to the funeral services, there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Riggs Funeral Home at 3 p.m.

The Riggs Funeral Home is located at 130 Route 9 North in Forked River.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for a donation to be made to the Lacey United Methodist Church. In the memo, write “Sandy Relief Fund.” The donations can be sent to P.O. Box 151, Forked River, NJ 08731.

Odd-It-Tees is donating t-shirts in memory of DiFabio. They can be purchased for $10. All proceeds will go to an organization of the DiFabio family’s choice.
