Families Celebrate Literacy

The Forked River School holds Literacy Fair and Open House

The schools parking lot was at capacity as families flocked to the Forked River Schools Literacy Fair and Open House. Moms, Dads, Grandparents and kids all shared in this fun family experience.

Students served as tour guides for their family members as they visited the various stations throughout the school. All in attendance were able to actively participate in the many activities including: the writing process, examine students’ writing, and learn about the schools literacy program.

The stations included: Interactive White Board activities for students and parents, NJASK Parent information, a visit from author Lori Lee Carson, Storytown Literacy Program display and Composers’ Corner. Students and teachers manned each station with hands-on activities.

The crowd was also treated to some entertainment. The students in grades one to two sang for the crowd, as well as the third and fourth grade chorus. There was even a poetry reading by the Drama Club.

Families were encouraged to visit each station with a punch card. The students’ family with the most punches, would be entered to win a prize that would be awarded to the student in school the following day. Every family who attended was entered to win one of the numerous prizes donated from local merchants who were announced at the end of the night.
