Volunteers to Help Seniors Face Medicare

County begins training volunteers in sessions June 19

Volunteers are being sought to help senior citizens in Ocean County get answers to questions about the federal Medicare program.

The volunteers must be willing to attend five training programs sponsored by the State Health Insurance Assistance Program and Ocean County’s Office of Senior Services, according to Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari.

The training sessions will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 19, July 6, 13, 20 and 26 at the county’s Fire and First Aid Training Center on Volunteer Way in Waretown. Those completing the program will be SHIP certified counselors equipped to answer questions on Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare HMO’s and the prescription drug assistance program.
