Township's Annual 5K Rescheduled For September

Due to Hurricane Irene, attendance to the race would have been greatly impacted

The township’s eleventh annual 5K has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sep. 17.

“I’m not concerned about the weather. I’m concerned about the evacuation and people not coming. It would impact on my attendance,” Municipal Alliance Coordinator Heather Scanlon said.

Tomorrow’s forecast is a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Although Scanlon was not originally concerned about weather, with Hurricane Irene approaching, she believes less people would attend the 5K.

“We just thought we would err on the side of keeping everyone safe,” she said. “Most people who called [regarding the race] were relieved.”

One hundred and forty people have pre-registered for the race but the Municipal Alliance was expecting about 300 to show up for the 5K, One-Mile Fun Run/Walk and Kiddie Dash at Gille Park.
