Township Departments to Discuss Budget at Workshop

Budget workshop meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight

Township departments will present their preliminary budgets at a budget workshop meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9.

The municipal court, tax assessor, tax collector, municipal clerk and administration will sit down to discuss the 2011 budget. Future budget meetings will also be scheduled.

Last month, the state aid for Lacey Township was announced. The proposed total formula aid was maintained at $11,273,840 under Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed budget.

The township will be receiving $11,107,558 from the energy tax and $166,282 for the Garden State Trust, which decreased by $82,000 since last year.

Based on the $3.2 million shortfall Lacey Township is currently facing, Mayor  Gary Quinn believes taxes will be raised by 2 percent this year, which is the maximum that municipalities can increase taxes under the state-mandated cap.
