Patch Voter Guide: Nov. 8 Municipal Elections

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. as two candidates are vying for one open Township Committee seat.

Committeeman David Most, whose term is up Dec. 31, 2011, will be up for re-election on the Republican ticket while Democratic newcomer Gary Vaccaro will try to earn the seat.

The general election can lead to a party power shift on the committee if Vaccaro is voted in. The committee has been maintained by a Republican majority for more than a decade.

Background on the Candidates:

Most
Most, 53, of 2196 Lacey Road in Forked River, is a Lead Instrument Technician at Oyster Creek Generating Station.

Most first got involved with local government through his involvement in Lacey Township.

As former Lacey Girls Softball Revenue Chair, volunteer to Forked River Fire Co. and Scuba Team, Vice President of Sunrise Beach Club and Revenue Chair for Lacey Township’s 125th Anniversary, he always had an interest in contributing to the town, Most said.

Some of his major contributions to the township committee include reducing budget expenditures by nearly $200,000 in the last year and his efforts to replace Oyster Creek upon its closure in 2019, he said.

His focus for the future is to maintain services, stabilize taxes and continue to push for the replacement of Oyster Creek in 2019, he said.

Vaccaro coaches for various Lacey recreation programs including Lacey Soccer, Girls Softball and Bob Court Basketball.

Vaccaro sees making the township affordable and safe as his top priorities, he said. The goal is to stabilize taxes by prioritizing spending, he said.

He wants to encourage citizen’s involvement and sees shared services as a township way to cut costs. Vaccaro would also like to explore alternative energy companies and companies who would be willing to build a manufacturing facility to create jobs and the development of a town center.
