NRC Issues Violation To Oyster Creek Owner For Accounting Violations, Report Says


Operators of the Oyster Creek nuclear reactor in Lacey used inaccurate accounting for several years when figuring out costs for decommissioning the plant after 2019, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

But now but the accounting is back on track and the plant’s $814,000 decommissioning trust fund is where it should be, according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Officials for the NRC said Monday that they issued a “severity level IV violation” to plant operator Exelon over decommissioning trust fund updates the company filed to the federal agency in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009 for several plants, including Oyster Creek.
