More Lacey Township Recreation Senior Trips Announced for the Fall

Shopping, dining, entertainment and history on tap

Some old favorites and some new destinations are planned as Lacey Township Recreation’s senior citizen day trips continue this fall.

On Thursday, Oct. 6 a new trip is being offered to Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach for an afternoon program, “Tea by the Sea.”

“The staff will take an animal from their collection and focus on it while the seniors enjoy tea and a snack,” said James Wioland, township Recreation Director. “While it’s still nice out, they can stroll on the boardwalk, eat on their own and then head into the aquarium for the program.”

The cost for the trip is $11. The bus will leave from the Gille Park parking lot at 10:30 a.m.

Another new trip will take place on Thursday, Oct. 13 when the group travels to Laurita Winery and Emery’s Farm Market in New Egypt for $12 per person, which includes transportation, a guided tour of the winery and a wine tasting. The buses will leave from Gille Park at 11 a.m.

“Anyone interested in picking up pies, Emery’s is a destination for their fruit pies,” said Wioland.

One of the most popular trips of the year is to the Columbus Market in Columbus, Burlington County, on Thursday, Oct. 20, a day when there is an Amish market. The cost is $6 and covers transportation only. Buses will leave Gille Park at 8 a.m.

Lunch and a movie at Marquee Cinema in Toms River will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 1 for a cost of $5. Lunch and the movie are on your own. It’s senior day at the theater so tickets are at a reduced rate of $5.50, according to Wioland. Buses will leave Gille Park at 11 a.m.

With Thanksgiving a week away, the Lacey seniors will head to the Freehold Raceway Mall on Thursday, Nov. 17 for shopping then to Delicious Orchards Country Food Market in Colts Neck for holiday pies. The cost of the trip is $6 per person and will leave Gille Park at 9 a.m.

Three holiday trips will round out the fall lineup of trips.

The group will travel to Princeton to visit the Governor’s mansion, Drumthwacket during a special Open House and shopping and lunch in downtown Princeton on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

“They decorate the entire mansion for the holiday season with a theme in each room,” said Wioland. “You walk through and see how the house is decorated and observe a piece of history for New Jersey.”

The cost is $11 and the bus will leave Gille Park at 9 a.m. Lunch is on your own.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the seniors will go on a holiday shopping trip to Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Each person will receive a coupon book. The cost is $6 and the bus will leave Gille Park at 9 a.m.

Finally, a trip to Surflight Theater in Beach Haven will be held Thursday, Dec. 15 for their annual holiday show, this year called “Plaid Tidings.” The cost is $38 per person and the bus will leave Gille Park at 12:30 p.m.

The first two trips this season were to concerts at the PNC Bank Arts Center. While it rained for the first date, it was a nice day last week when about 35 seniors went to see Frankie Avalon.

“They really enjoyed it,” said Wioland. “People like to park and ride with us. If they went to the shows themselves, they’d have to walk, but with us, they get dropped off at the door.”

There is one last PNC Bank Arts Center concert trip this week and then next week, two busloads of people are headed to Cape May for the day.

To register for any of the programs, Lacey Township senior citizens may register at the Recreation Office, 818 W. Lacey Rd., Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Checks should be made payable to Lacey Township. Call 609-693-1100 ext. 2203 with any questions.
