Lacey Recreation Department Offers Winter Programs for All Ages

New programs make great stocking stuffers, Director says

Still searching for that perfect holiday gift? Consider giving the gift of recreation.

The Recreation Department is offering a wide variety of new programs this winter including partnerships with Garden State Gymnastics Center and Shoprite.

“If you are looking for a different holiday gift this season, give the gift of recreation,” Director Jim Wioland said. “We have many unique classes that will provide a great experience for any age.”

There are programs for residents of all ages, he said.

“Our children will be busy as we will have a range of yoga, gymnastics, tumbling, story time and crafts,” he said. “We did not forget about our teens as we have many fitness courses as well as an intense body changing training program.”

Children will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops by Shoprite while adults can sign up for culinary workshops and enrichment classes.

“These classes would make great stocking stuffers,” he said.

Below are a list of programs and a description as provided by Wioland. Residents can register for any program by mail or at the Recreation Office on 818 Lacey Road Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis and all checks should be made payable to Lacey Township. For more information call 609-693-1100, ext. 2203.

Tumble Tots
A 45-minute class designed for children 12 months to two years of age where children participate in movement activities, games, music and free exploration.

The new program will be offered every Friday from Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Garden State Gymnastics Center at Challenger Way in Forked River.  A parent or guardian should accompany the child throughout the class. Registration is $90.

Preschool Gymnastics
A 4-5 minute class that includes a warm up to music, followed by a gymnastics circuit with games and activities. The program will help increase attention, follow directions, build physical abilities and develop an interest in fitness.

The program will be offered every Friday from Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 at the Garden State Gymnastics Center at 6 p.m. Registration is $90.

Someone Special & Me Yoga
This program explores yoga movements and relaxation techniques for children between two and five years old. It is a 45-minute class, which includes reading, games, music and art.

The program will take place at the Recreation Department classroom on Friday’s from Jan. 20 to March 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Registration is $65.

Someone Special & Me Story Time and Craft
This hour-long class will stimulate children’s literature along with an activity. It will be offered every Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Jan. 17 through March 6.

The program is for children 18 months through two years old and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for ages three to five years old. Registration is $55.

Kids & Teen Yoga
This class will enhance flexibility, strength, coordination, body awareness, concentration, sense of calmness and relaxation.

Grades one through four will meet four eight Mondays from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Grades five through eight will meet for eight Thursdays from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is $65.

Cooking Jr.
The Shoprite of Lacey will be holding a culinary workshop for children in grades one through five.

Cake decorating will be on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 5 to 6 p.m. and Fun Finger Foods will be on Thursday, Jan. 26 from 5 to 6 p.m. Registration is $10.

The CHANGE Program
This is a 10-week program that provides semi-private training and nutritional instruction for 30 sessions. The course will help residents to lose weight and gain self esteem through fitness including walking, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, weight training and more.

Registration is $295.

Teens “Ab”solutely Yoga
This yoga class will be offered to teens to focus on core strength. Registration is $70.

The Recreation Department is also offering Mountain Creek in McAfee, NJ and Jack Frost/Big Boulder in Blakesee, PA lift tickets as well as admission to Sahara Sam’s Indoor Oasis and Camelback Mountain coupons.
