Lacey 'Prepared' for Impending Storm

With higher water levels, the township has seen more flooding

Lacey Township is monitoring the impending storm and Township Administrator and Municipal Clerk said it’s “prepared.”

“Lacey, as with other towns, will monitor the storm and if necessary begin plowing the public roadways,” she said.

Although the National Weather Service is not reporting large amounts of snow accumulation for the Jersey Shore area, a coastal flood watch has been issued.

"Lacey does not do anything extra for the flooding," Laureigh said. "Storm drains are cleaned to be sure they are working but with the higher water levels in the bays, rivers, and lagoons we have seen more flooding."

Subcontractors have been put on notice that they may be called in, she said.

The township will not plow if it’s a light and powdery snow, she said. But if it’s a heavy snow and there is three inches or more, the township will plow, Laureigh said.

Highly traveled intersections will be prepared with salting and liquid brine mixture, she said.

“The game plan is that we call in the employees/subcontractors and they work their assigned routes removing the snow from the public roadways,” she said.

Laureigh asked for residents to remove their vehicles from the roadways so proper plowing can take place. Summonses can be issued to those who fail to comply.

Portable basketball hoops should also be removed from the streets. Damage done to hoops on the roads is not the responsibility of the township, she said.

Casting of snow into the roadway by residents is prohibited, she said.

Also, businesses and residents that have sidewalks in front of their property must remove the snow and ice, she said.
