Free Paper Shredding Program in Ocean County

Residents can shred paper for free in Brick, Toms River, Manchester, and Lacey

Now in its fourth year, Ocean County will offer its free paper shredding program again next month at locations in Brick, Toms River, Manchester and Lacey townships.

Freeholder James F. Lacey said residents are welcome to bring documents for shredding, but commercial records cannot be accommodated. A county vendor will shred up to six boxes or bags of papers for each resident, he explained.

NexCut LLC of Union City will have a truck with an 8,000-pound capacity at each location. The company’s workers are bonded, uniform, and insured. The shredder feeds documents automatically so there is no human contact with the papers.

Lacey said the service helps avoid identity theft and aids recycling.

“That’s 8,000 pounds of paper what won’t be going to the landfill,’’ he said. Paper clips and staples can be left in documents being shredded, he explained.
