Eagle Scouts Honored by Township Committee

Matthew Moeller built benches for Bicentennial Park while Andrew Hooper refurbished wooden guardrail at a park

Two Lacey teens were honored with a proclamation at Thursday’s township committee meeting for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

“The scouting organization is just outstanding in this community,” Mayor Gary Quinn said.

. The benches bear the seals of the Armed Forces.

“You did an outstanding job,” Quinn said. “What you did over there has had such an impact on the veteran’s that go visit that park on a regular basis. It’s something in our own minds we never thought about and we couldn’t have asked for a better Eagle Scout project.”

Moeller originally began the project in honor of his grandfather, CWO4 Thomas E. Moeller, USN. Ret. and his uncle Vice Admiral Robert T. Moeller, USN Ret.

Troop 56 donated approximately 86.5 hours to complete the project.

Andrew Hooper refurbished the wooden guardrail surround the parking area at Deerhead Lake Park and also cleared the litter and placed a bench in a grassy area.

“You filled a void that Casey [Parker, Public Works Director] could not only not do financially but with the manpower we’ve been losing. It’s been tough for us,” Quinn said. “We thank you for your hard work.”

Troop 156 and Troop 42 donated 8 hours to complete the project.
