County's Free Hazardous Waste Disposal Program Begins Today

Point Pleasant Beach is the first location where county residents can drop off hazardous waste products; registration is required

Today kicks off the beginning of Ocean County’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program.

Items can be disposed of at the sites listed below, free of charge.

Hazardous waste items will not be accepted from businesses, school boards or government agencies. Only residential households and farmers are eligible. Proof of residency is necessary.

Each household is limited to 200 pounds of dry materials and 20 gallons of liquid. The county asks to refrain from disposing of containers larger than 5 gallons.

Acceptable materials include paints/thinners/boat paint; solvents; pool chemicals; pesticides and herbicides' aerosol cans; auto products; toilet and drain cleaners; silver polishes; oven cleaners; photographic chemicals; rug and upholstery cleaners; polishes and bleaches; waste oil; and used gasoline.

All the above materials, except oil and gasoline, must be in original containers.

Unacceptable materials include radioactive materials dioxins, infectious waste ("Red Bag" wastes), explosives, unknown or unidentified materials. No construction waste or asbestos is accepted.

Pre-registration is required and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the county to pre-register: 732-367-0802 for Point Beach and Berkeley; 732-506-5047 for Brick and Jackson; 609-978-0913 for Stafford.

  • Point Pleasant Beach, municipal parking lot, Arnold and Ocean avenues, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 17.
  • Brick Township, Drum Point Sports Complex, 41 Drum Point Road, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, May 18.
  • Jackson Township, Public Works garage, 10 Don Connor Boulevard, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday May 19.
  • Berkeley Township, Public Works garage, Pinewald-Keswick Road, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, May 25.
  • Stafford Township, Public Works garage, 320 Hay Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 26.
