In Manahawkin, the governor makes first public appearance since 'Bridgegate' scandal broke

He may want to work in Washington D.C., but does Gov. Chris Christie really want to move out of New Jersey?

Christie made his first public appearance since the "Bridgegate" lane-closure scandal broke last week, appearing in Manahawkin Thursday to announce an $817 million housing recovery program in one of the communities hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy.

But the governor, who many have cast as a potential Republican nominee for president in 2016, also spoke of his affection of New Jersey and told the gathering that: "This is where I intend to spend the rest of my life."

Christie abruptly cancelled the same event last week - with less than 20 minutes notice - after the "Bridgegate" story broke.

don't worry Andy Pat - the Ciba-Geigy unground filter system generator that burnt out in Seaside Park is being repaired in the South Toms River political kneepad warehouse and will soon be greased up enough to reclaim all of our backed-up swamp waste and get it flowing back in its traditional boardwalk showcase - we will be forever indebted to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office for expediting this matter in our time of need

He won't get to DC. Dropped 13 points behind Hillary in just a week. NJ shouldn't have to put up with his BS for 4 more years, either. IMPEACH HIM.

Just how do the previous posts help the situation? People lament the loss of Danny Nee as a Brick reporter. Maybe if there were conversations and not backbiting comments he might still be here. Or bette yet how about posters reporting without their own agenda. I guess you are all to young to know the words of Sgt Joe Friday on Dragnet, "Just the facts."

Comments have nothing to do with Nee's departure, except maybe they show that people are reading Patch and thinking/participating sufficiently to take the time and effort to comment. "Live" people means income for Patch from its advertisers. However, facts (news) would draw more readers. We're not getting much news any more.

@JFTR - are you the 'suz' alter-ego by any chance? - not only was Theodore Roosevelt a bit more humble than Chris Christie, Roosevelt used his wisdom to open paths to the future by charging up hills rather than hiring AshBritt to clear the path for him

@JFTR - somehow I am guessing that Roosevelt spoke of the "strong man" "who spends himself in a worthy cause" I don't think he was speaking of the self serving, narcissistic behavior that is being investigated.

What's with these last 3 NJ governors who self-destruct? Is there something in our water or maybe north jersey water since the last 3 guys lived in north jersey? Incredibly disappointing and embarrassing again! No wonder there are New Jersey jokes !!! If Christie was a stand up guy he'd admit to his involvement and save countless people from testifying, save NJ money and not disrupt this state any further !!!

I do not care where he lives, shops or eats as long as the people who need help getting back in their homes get the help they have been waiting so long for. I also do not want one dime to go to tourism until all these people are helped. Maybe I ask for too much. anonymous

Why is it Christie get all the glory for the shore recovery when all he does is put his arms around people and comfort them. All the money is coming from the feds and only half of it has been distributed and is controlled by the state. Has all the money from the fund raising been given out? The money Christie used for the Senate election could have gone to help the people affected by Sandy. I haven't heard of these long delays in the other states damaged by Sandy.

the Seasides are back on the map - the hottest T-shirt of the 2014 Jersey tourist season is drawing record crowds back to the Fun Town boardwalk for the must-have personally autographed David Wildstein collector's edition - it's a sandy beach colored T-shirt with a burning GWB in the background - in the forefront is Governor Christie landing his helicopter in the middle of three orange cones bearing the Governor's Seal and 6 big black letters each spelling out STUPID STUPID STUPID.

Disgusted but not surprised. I would have attended the Manahawkin event if there was more notice - less than 24 hours. From what I hear - Sandy victims stood while Christie's entourage sat. Great photo op - letters followed on RREM grants. Shallow attempt. Hope NJ citizens get a special prosecutor to ENFORCE NJ laws - no faith in NJ AG at this point.
