Woman Who Struck Boat in Intensive Care

Forked River woman was ejected from personal watercraft in accident on Toms River

A woman who was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center early yesterday evening after her on the Toms River is in intensive care, state police said.

Ywai Suen, 35, Forked River, suffered head injuries when she hit the boat and was ejected into the water, Sgt. Stephen Jones said.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m., in the river near the Toms River Country Club. The boat, a 41-foot Sea Ray, was entering a no-wake zone at a legal speed when Suen struck the back of the boat, Jones said.

"It appears the woman driving the watercraft lost control and ran into the transom," he said.

The occupants of the Sea-Ray - whose names were not released - plucked Suen out of the water and notified New Jersey State Marine Police of the accident, Jones said.
