Unlocked Vehicles Targeted by Burglars

Police reported a rash of car burglaries on Windward Drive in Forked River and at the Georgetown Apartment complex

There were a rash of burglaries to unsecured motor vehicles throughout Lacey this past week, Lt. James Veltri said.

On Jan. 22 police responded to a number of burglaries on Windward Drive in Forked River.

A resident reported at 7:30 a.m. that two unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway were entered. Items were strewn about the car but nothing was stolen.

While in the area of Windward Drive and Sunrise Boulevard at 9 a.m., police found a purse containing personal belongings of a Windward resident. When police arrived at the home to return the purse, they discovered that an unlocked vehicle was entered. All personal belongings were returned to the resident.

At a third residence, an unlocked vehicle was entered and two flashlights valued at $60 and miscellaneous change was stolen.

Another unlocked vehicle was entered. Items were strewn about the car but nothing was taken.

On Jan. 22, police responded to the Georgetown Apartment Complex at 12:47 a.m. A witness reported that they heard a noise coming from the parking lot and saw a male entering vehicles.

While the police were responding to the incident, at 1 a.m. someone visiting the complex returned to an unlocked vehicle. The car had been rifled through and an Apple iPod touch, a FM transmitter and a wallet with cash and personal identification were stolen. The value of the stolen items was $323.

A second vehicle parked nearby was also unlocked and entered. Approximately $300 worth of Oakley sunglasses was stolen.

The suspect was described as a tall white male approximately 20 years old.  He was wearing a grey jacket or sweatshirt, dark jeans and a dark hat.

On Jan. 13 a resident of Plumstead Court in Lanoka harbor reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered. Stolen was $325 worth of merchandise including sunglasses, multitools, and an iPod.

Police continue to investigate the car burglaries.
