Car fire sends two to Community Medical Center for treatment

Two Forked River Residents were treated and released from Community Medical Center in Toms River after suffering burns during a car fire, said Kristine Brown, director of Public Relations at the hospital.

James Delucia, 24, and Janine Gersna, 24, both of Wainwright Street in Forked River, suffered burns after a car was engulfed in flames. Delucia’s hands and wrists were burnt while Gersna suffered burns to her face.

The car fire occurred at 2360 Holly Road in the Bamber Lake section of Lacey Township at 5:50 p.m., said Michael Eden, Chief of Bamber Lakes Fire Company.

Delucia was attempting to siphon gas from the 1990 Acura Integra, owned by his father, Salvatore, 52, of Holly Road, Forked River.

The car was parked in the driveway just feet from the home when it suddenly caught fire, police officials said.

The vehicle was destroyed and a portion of the home’s vinyl siding was melted due to the heat.

Delucia and Gersna were transported by the Lacey EMS to Community Medical Center.

At this time, the fire is believed to be accidental, police officials said.

The Lacey Township Police Department as well as the Bamber Lake and Forked River Fire Departments responded. The Ocean County Fire Marshal was also requested.
