State Fire Service Contains 3-Acre Blaze Near Parker's Pit

No injuries were reported in the large brush fire that occurred on private property near Parker's Pit

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service extinguished a 3-acre fire in the Pine Barrens Sunday afternoon.

The Forked River Fire Department responded to assist the state fire service at approximately 4:20 p.m., said Brian Flynn, Deputy Chief of the Forked River Fire Department.

The brush fire ignited on private property off Lacey Road near Parker’s Pit. No injuries or property damage was reported; the blaze was contained to the trees.

The fire was put out by the state fire service by 8 p.m.

The cause is currently unknown. The state forest fire service will return on Monday to investigate the scene.
