Six Reports Of ATM Fraud In Lacey Monday

The Lacey Township Police Department received more than six reports Monday from Lacey Township residents regarding fraudulent activity on their debit cards.

Some residents have reported that their Bank of America ATM cards have been fraudulently used at locations in North New Jersey within the past several days, police said.

The victims in each reported incident have physical possession of their debit cards, yet funds are possibly being withdrawn from their bank accounts at ATM locations in North Jersey. Each incident is currently under investigation by the Lacey Township Police Department.

It is suggested that residents check their bank accounts to ensure there has been no fraudulent activity. If any fraudulent activity is discovered, residents are asked to immediately report the fraud to their respective banks, then report the matter to the Lacey Township Police Department.

The Lacey Township Police Department will be working with bank personnel to determine the method utilized to obtain the debit card information.

I've had this happen to me twice in six months, one after only having used the credit card several times. Advice given to me was to avoid any ATM's or services (redbox or vending machines) that are outside that can be tampered with to have a card reader inserted which collects your number. I am pretty sure my info was stolen at Spirits Unlimited so I now go out of my way to use my other hand to cover up while typing in my pin when I use my cards.

You should never use your card as a DEBIT card use it as a CC this way you do not have to type your PIN #. Most banks give the option of using it either way.
