UPDATE: Cause of Laurel Boulevard Brush Fire Undetermined

A "nuisance fire" ignited on the property where Lacey Town Village is to be built

The cause of a brush fire that ignited across from the CVS on Route 9 and Laurel Boulevard is still undetermined, Detective Sergeant Christopher Cornelius said.

The Lanoka Harbor Fire Department responded to the scene at around 10:24 a.m. The blaze was extinguished by 11:30 a.m.

The blaze was contained to approximately half an acre, Cornelius said. One fireman called it a “nuisance fire.”

The location of the fire was on the property where Lacey Town Village, a non-age-restricted housing development, is to be built. The land had been previously cleared where debris caught fire.

No damage was done to the property as the land that was burnt was covered with grass seeds and straw, Cornelius said.

Materials from the fire will be sent to a lab to determine whether the incident was suspicious, Cornelius said.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal assisted at the scene and the Lacey Township Police Department are continuing to investigate.
