Police Blotter: Lacey Liquors Targeted By Shoplifters

Police activity and arrests from May 17 to May 23

Lacey Liquors in Forked River has been targeted by shoplifters of late.

This week, two underage residents were charged with shoplifting after allegedly smuggling liquor out of the store, police said.

On May 23 at 9:30 p.m., Lacey Liquors notified the police of a possible shoplifter.

A 15-year-old Forked River female allegedly stole Jagermeister Liquor from the store, police said. The female was chased by store employees and was caught by police near Constitution Drive, where she spat on an officer while being apprehended, police said.

The minor was charged with shoplifting and aggravated assault on a police officer.

That same day, Jacob Barney, 18, of Forked River was arrested after he allegedly stole $52 worth of alcohol from Lacey Liquors, police said. Barney was detained at the store and was released on a summons. The alcohol was recovered.

A 17-year-old Forked River male was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and received a summons for possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. The male was originally stopped for careless driving at 4:30 p.m.

His passenger, Richard Coletta, 19, of Lanoka Harbor was also charged with possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lacey Shell reported that a group of people were loitering in the parking lot at 2:30 p.m. Chardel Holman, 27, of Seaside Heights was found to have a $1,000 warrant from Toms River and a $2,395 warrant out of Seaside Heights. Holman was sent to Ocean County Jail in lieu of his bail.

A resident of Spruce Lane in Forked River reported that an Xbox game valued at $40 was stolen from the home. There was no forced entry.

Police reported to Nantucket Road in Forked River where three sets of collectible coins valued at $1,900 were stolen from a residence. There was no forced entry.

May 23

Two sliding doors valued at $7,000 were damaged at a home on Beach Boulevard in Forked River. An entry was made into the residence but nothing was reported stolen. Both doors need to be replaced.

May 22

A 2-foot tall Blessed Mother statue valued at $50 was stolen from a residence on Richard Place.

A 2004 Chevy Impala valued at $10,000 was stolen from a residence on Windjammer Court in Forked River. The investigation is ongoing.

May 22

A motor vehicle was stopped for speeding. Subsequent investigation found that the driver had a suspended drivers license. The passenger, Philip Olson, 37, of Bayville had three child support warrants for $32,000, a warrant out of Neptune City for $2,000, and another from Toms River for $500. Olsen was sent to Ocean County Jail.

May 21

At 11 p.m. David Lauritsen, 44, of Barnegat was pulled over. Lauritsen was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and tailgating.

An unlocked vehicle parked on Spruce Lane in Forked River was entered. A wallet containing numerous personal identification cards and credit cards was stolen.

An unlocked vehicle parked on Sunset Drive in Forked River was entered. Numerous credit cars, $20 in cash, and an ATM card were stolen.

May 19

A resident on Randolph Place in Forked River reported that $362 was stolen from their home. There was no forced entry.

May 18

A car burglary was reported at Walmart at 8 p.m. It was determined at the scene that the customer had left the car unlocked in the Walmart parking lot.

Matthew Copeland, 20, of Forked River was charged with one count of burglary, one count of theft, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Copeland stole $60 in cash from the car. He was sent to Ocean County Jail with his bail set at $20,000.

Copeland’s passenger, Ashley Frank, 18, of Forked River had a warrant issued by Lacey Township for $400 and was sent to jail.

May 17

A resident on Clubhouse Drive in Forked River reported that someone stole a cement two-foot tall gray elephant valued at $150.
