Police Blotter: Lacey Businesses Defaced with Graffiti Again

Graffiti continues to be found throughout Lacey Township

Graffiti continues to plague Lacey Township even after a Forked River man was charged last week with causing graffiti damage.

On Feb. 26, Patrolman Peter Donahue responded to multiple scenes of graffiti damage:

  • A concrete light pole at Walmart was spray-painted. The value of the damage is approximately $75.
  • A sign at Kiwanis on Route 9 was spray-painted in black graffiti. The repair costs is estimated at $200.
  • The building and rear door where Rising Sun Surf Shop is located on Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor were spray-painted with black graffiti. The estimated repair costs are $1000.
  • A sign at Lacey Used Auto Parts was found vandalized. The black spray paint has since been removed.

Lt. James Veltri said these incidences are not related to the graffiti damage allegedly caused by Zachary McKay, 22, of Forked River. McKay was charged with 12 counts of criminal mischief last week for allegedly causing more than $2,200 in graffiti damage throughout Lacey,

The most recent damage consists of a different "tag," which typically incorporates the artists initials, name, or inspiration.

McKay's graffiti tag consisted of the word "Sine" on Lacey Township property including Hebrew Park, South Dock, Cedar Creek Beach and the township-owned boardwalk and guardrail located at the end of Laurel Boulevard. Many area businesses were also damaged.

According to various websites featuring graffiti, the tag "Sine" represents a well-known graffiti artist from Nantes, France.

March 1

Patrolman Della Sala and Detective James Wood responded to a residence on Brookdale Park Drive in Forked River. A resident reported that someone entered the home without force and stole $500 cash and a wallet valued at $100.

Feb. 28

Patrolman John Simonson reported to the Toll Brothers development under construction on Gladstone Street in Forked River where the front door of a home was stolen. The door was valued at $750.

Feb. 27

A resident of Toms River reported to Patrolman Della Sala that he lost his 2006 Honda ATV valued at $2,700 somewhere between Bamber Lake and Toms River while transporting the quad. The ATV was recovered by the Toms River Police Department on Feb. 28 in Toms River. The quad was not stolen.

Feb. 27

Patrolman Fred Anderson arrested Lisa Farrell, 50, of Forked River. Farrell was initially detained on a motor vehicle stop but was found to have a $500 warrant out of West Long Branch. She was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she posted bail.

Feb. 24

Patrolman Robert Flynn reported to 7-Eleven on Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor where a Redbox DVD machine sustained heavy damage. The repair costs are estimated at $700.

Feb. 24

Patrolman George Resetar arrested Christopher Burnett, 27, of Manahawkin after he failed to stop at a traffic signal and impacted a car on Route 9 and First Street in Forked River.

Burnett was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving while suspended, improper use of the cell phone, and failure to observe a traffic signal, officials said.

Burnett also had a warrant issued by the Long Beach Township Court valued at $750 and another warrant for $1,000 from the Bass River Municipal Court.

Burnett’s bail was posted at police headquarters, and he was released.

Feb. 23

Patrolman Michael Eden reported to Pine Forest Lane where a SIRIUS radio and Garmin Global Positioning System (GPS) unit were stolen from a vehicle that was left unlocked over night. The total value of the stolen property was $450.

Feb. 23

Patrolman Louis Brignola reported to a residence on Arbor Ridge Drive in Forked River, where the home was entered and an 18-karat gold tanzanite ring valued at $3,500 was stolen. There was no forced entry.

Feb. 18

Donahue arrested Jacquelyn Kadeg, 21, of Lavallette, Ashley Alvino, 21, of Toms River, and Shannon Knoke, 30, of South Toms River on charges of shoplifting from Walmart.

The three females were accused of shoplifting $250 worth of merchandise at the store and charged with attempting to conceal items on themselves. The stolen merchandise consisted of makeup and four bottles of Similac.

Alvino and Kadeg were released on summonses.

Knoke was found to have a $450 warrant out of South Toms River. Knoke received another warrant for $500 for the shoplifting incident. She was transported to Ocean County Jail.
