Police Blotter: Purse Snatched from Forked River Woman

From March 8 to March 13

A female from Forked River was shopping at the Lacey ShopRite on March 13 when her purse was stolen out of her shopping cart.

The purse contained $200 cash, car keys, gift cards, and credit cards. The victim’s credit cards have been used in local stores.

March 14

Kenneth Steiner, 28, Lanoka Harbor was arrested on a Waretown warrant of $500. Steiner posted bail and was released.

March 13

Police reported to a home on Maple Road in Forked River where a freestanding garage was entered. A 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 Quad valued at $5,000 was stolen. The investigating is ongoing.

March 13

Michael Corliss, 19, of Forked River and a 16-year-old male were arrested at 5 a.m. Police found the two males walking with beer in the area of Constitution Drive in Forked River.

Corliss was charged with underage possession of alcohol and released on a summons. The minor was charged with underage possession of alcohol as well and released to his parent.

March 12

A Hillsborough resident reported that a leather jacket valued at $500 was stolen while at Latitudes On the River in Forked River.

A 3" X 5" advertisement sign valued at $600 was stolen from the Hockey Rink and Gille Park.

A resident from Belleville reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered while parked at the Lacey ShopRite. The perpetrator broke the FM car radio while going through the car. The estimated damage is $50.

March 11

Kyle Pianetti, 18, of Lanoka Harbor was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. Pianetti was found with a Husqvarna Chainsaw valued at $290, which was originally reported stolen on Feb. 6 from a residence on Leilani Drive, Forked River.

Craig Morotta, 42, of Nutley was arrested at 12:51 a.m. on a charge of shoplifting at Walmart. Morotta stole a car phone charger valued at $14.56.

After the arrest, Morotta was found to have four outstanding warrants: $1,000 out of Lacey Township, $750 out of Lakewood, $500 out of Lodi, and $1,470 out of Passaic City. Morotta could not post bail and was sent to Ocean County Jail.

March 11

Joseph Nich, 20, of Bayville was arrested at 11:30 p.m., half an hour before turning 21. Nich’s vehicle was originally stopped for speeding. He was charged with DWI, underage DWI, reckless driving, and speeding.

A home on Bullard Avenue was entered and a MP3 player, digital camera, and Xbox 360 games were stolen. Total value of the stolen property was $340.

Kim Hans, 54, of Lanoka Harbor was arrested at 1:24 a.m. on charges of DWI, reckless driving, and parking in a handicap stall. Police located the vehicle in the area of Wawa on Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor after receiving a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

March 10

Police reported to a home on Center Street for possible threats.

Upon investigation, Matthew Copeland, 20, of Forked River was charged with possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of weapon. The weapon was described as a 1-foot long Billy-type club.

Sarah Murrar, 23, of Forked River and Michael Costello, 21, of Forked River were charged with providing false written statements to law enforcement. They were released on summonses.

March 10

A resident on Brookdale Park Drive in Forked River reported a stolen wallet containing multiple credit cards, personal identification, and $200 cash.

March 9

Brett Sleeper, 28, of Forked River was arrested after police conducted a motor vehicle stop. Sleeper had a no-bail warrant issued by Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and a Medford Township warrant for $114. Sleeper was taken to Ocean County Jail because he could not post bail.

March 9

A resident of Joffre Road in Forked River reported damage to their vehicle that was parked on the roadway overnight. Someone damaged the driver’s side mirror. Estimated damage is $250.

A resident on Hemlock Lane in Forked River reported that someone entered the rear porch to their home and stole a chainsaw and a cordless drill. The chainsaw was valued at $350 and the cordless drill was valued at $250.

A Canon camera valued at $600 and a SureFire flashlight valued at $150 was stolen at Eternal Images.

March 8

Roger Hopson, 19, of Forked River and Brandon Broschart, 18, of Forked River were charged with disorderly conduct.

Hopson and Broschart were relocating cement blocks and traffic barrels from a construction zone across the roadway of Lakeside Drive and Central Lake, police said.

Hopson was caught exiting a construction vehicle and was also charged with trespassing.

March 8

John Makar, 45, of Little Egg Harbor was arrested at 9:40 p.m. after his vehicle was stopped. Makar was then charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane.

March 8

A ring with a gold band and diamonds was stolen from a home on Fernwood Drive in Forked River. The ring is valued at $200. There was no forced entry.
