Police Blotter: 17 Car Burglaries in One Week

From April 5 to April 10

There was a rash of 17 car burglaries throughout the past week.

All vehicles that were entered were unlocked and items generally stolen included GPS units, iPod’s, and wallets.

The police department cannot yet determine if the incidences are related, Lt. James Veltri said.

Veltri strongly suggests that residents lock their cars and remove their valuables.

Veltri provided the following information on arrests and crimes in Lacey Township that occurred throughout the last week.

April 10, 2011

Leopoldo Altobelli, 41, of Toms River was arrested at approximately 9:45 p.m. and charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and failure to use headlights. Altobelli was originally stopped for driving with not headlights and failure to maintain lane.

April 10, 2011

Carlo Zalewski, 21, of Tuckerton was arrested at 1:20 a.m. after he was pulled over for failure to maintain lane. Zalewski was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane.

April 9

A resident on Davenport Landing in Forked River reported that their decorative mailbox valued at $75 was stolen.

April 9

Police reported to Lane Place, Forked River where a resident said that a pool filter and a pool pump for an above ground pool were stolen from the yard. The total value of the stolen property is $500.

April 9

Police reported to Whitcomb Road in Forked River for a residential burglary. There was no forced entry but $5,000 worth of assorted jewelry was stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

A resident on Sarasota Drive in Forked River reported that $415 dollars in cash and change was stolen from their home. There was no forced entry.

A resident on Saltspray Drive in Forked River reported that at approximately 1 a.m. someone entered their yard and stole a bucket of scrap copper believed to be valued at $350.

April 7

A resident on Chestnut Street in Forked River reported that four truck tires valued at $100 were stolen. The resident had the tires out on the road’s edge attempting to sell them.

A Lacey Township resident reported that their son’s cell phone valued at $600 was stolen from the Lacey Middle School. The phone was left in the locker room unsecured.

April 7

Police responded to Bamber Auto Recyclers, an automotive part recycler, located on Lacey Road in the Bamber Lake section of Lacey Township. Someone made a forced entry into the property and stole approximately $500 worth of scrap items including used car batteries, used radiators, and used condensers. The investigation is ongoing.

April 6

A vehicle parked on Sheffield Drive in Forked River was damaged. The resident reported that the side mirror and driver’s side window was damaged. Total damage is $350.

April 6

Six empty beer kegs stored outside of Applebee’s were stolen. Total value is $180.
