Police: 2 Women Injured by Narcotic-Intoxicated Driver

Waretown man charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane after striking two vehicles

A Waretown man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-car motor vehicle accident in front of Oyster Creek Generating Station.

Route 9 was shut down for approximately 20 minutes on Friday while police investigated the accident in which Richard Bischoff Jr., 40, of Waretown allegedly struck two vehicles at 6 p.m.

Birschoff's Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling southbound on Route 9 before he crossed over the centerline and sideswiped a passenger car driven by Joyce Crothers, 80, of Forked River.

Birschoff's vehicle then entered the northbound lane of Route 9 and struck a second vehicle, driven by Marianna Gallotta of Bayville, head on.

Gallotta and Crothers were transported to Community Medical Center for injuries sustained as a result of the accident. Both women were discharged from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

Bischoff was allegedly under the influence of prescribed narcotics at the time of the accident.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

Nice. I guess almost killing people cuz you felt like drinking and driving is ok? Maybe some jail time will change your thinking.

Assuming facts not in evidence (while throwing in a bit of vindictiveness) seem to be a running malfunction in the comment section of the Lacey Patch. The article says that he was under the influence of prescribed narcotics, hence resulting in the DWI charge. Why immediately assume that he was drunk or intentionally abusing prescription drugs. He could have simply misjudged the effect a pain killer or two had on him. Unless you guys know something not set forth in the article, perhaps you should reserve judgement.
