Pedestrian Struck by Hit and Run in Critical Condition

Two accidents on Parkway: One pedestrian struck at Forked River Service Area and a three-car accident at exit 74

A pedestrian was struck by a hit and run vehicle at the Forked River Service Area on the Garden State Parkway northbound in Lacey Township at 5:25 p.m., state police officials said. The pedestrian was a 22-year-old white male and is listed in critical condition.

The male was flown by a medevac to the Jersey Shore Regional Trauma Center for serious injuries, including a severe head injury, officials said.

The driver of the hit and run vehicle has not been located.

The medevac was originally going to land at Public Works on Lacey Road in Forked River but was redirected to the Forked River Service Area, officials said.

According to the traffic advisory website, 511nj.org, as of 6:14 p.m. there was a three-mile delay heading north to Exit 69 on the Garden State Parkway due to the accident. All lanes were closed between 5:44 p.m. and 6:14 p.m., 511nj.org reported.

A second accident, approximately two hours later, also stalled traffic this evening.

There was a three-car accident injuring one on the exit 74 ramp on the Garden State Parkway northbound in Lacey Township, officials said.

The accident was reported at 6:55 p.m. and an EMS was requested for basic life support injuries. The individual was transported to the hospital, officials said.

The ramp was closed for approximately 45 minutes until maintenance arrived to clean off shattered glass on the ramp.
