UPDATE: Woman Avoids Deer, Strikes Tree

One-car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Forked River sends one to hospital

A woman was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries after an accident on the Garden State Parkway in Forked River, according to state police.

Police responded to the one-car accident at mile marker 76.2 northbound at approximately 7:15 a.m.

"The driver swerved to avoid deer carcass," Sgt. Robbins said. "The vehicle went off the road. It impacted a tree and broke a part pretty good."

The woman, whose name could not yet be released, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center to be evaluated for minor injuries. "It was nothing serious," Robbins said.

The scene was cleared early this morning and did not cause any traffic since it was off the road, Robbins said. Trooper Arnold is investigating the accident.
