Ocean Gate Man Charged With Using Stolen Credit Card In Lacey Walmart

Investigation of July 7 incident ended with arrest on July 25

Lacey police recently arrested an Ocean Gate man after he used a stolen credit card in the Walmart store in Lacey Township, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Douglas Clayton, 29, was charged with possession of a stolen credit card and fraudulent use of a credit card in connection with the July 7 incident, he said.

Lacey police responded to the store during the overnight hours on a report of a suspicious incident involving the purchase of gift cards, the chief said.

Three individuals bought a $300 gift card using an American Express credit card. Clayton then tried to purchase two additional gift cards valued at $800, but was unable to provide a pin number and "abruptly" left the store, the chief said.

Police later located the car and identified the man as Clayton. Further investigation discovered that the card had been reported stolen from a Berkeley Township resident, Paprota said

Clayton was arrested after the investigation was completed on July 25. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, in lieu of $20,000 bail, the chief said.
