Ocean Gate Man Charged With Aggravated Assault On Lacey Police Officer

Eugene J. Fisher Jr. also facing other charges

An Ocean Gate man is lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail after Lacey detectives charged him with aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding police, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Detective Brian Flynn charged Eugene J. Fisher Jr., 22, East Arverne Avenue on July 8 in connection with a June 18 incident involving a stolen Jeep Cherokee out of Waretown, the chief said.

The driver jumped from the stolen car, fled on foot and resisted arrested when he was apprehended by Officer Adam Ewart. He then fled again after the officer was injured wrestling with the suspect in the backyard of a home during the overnight hours, Paprota said.

Ewart sustained an arm injury and was treated at Southern Ocean Medical Center, the chief said.

Fisher was served with the charges at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, where he was already lodged on unrelated charges. Possible additional charges are pending further investigation, Paprota said.
