NJ Transit: Longer Waiting Room Hours, Cross-Honoring Tues., Wed.

Scattered power outages in Jersey Shore region after windy night

NJ Transit is keeping its waiting areas open longer and offering cross-honoring Tues. and Wed. as the deep freeze continues.

Meanwhile, a night of strong, cold winds has apparently caused some scattered outages throughout the Jersey Shore region, according to a map on the Jersey Central Power & Light website.

"Due to the dangerously low temperatures, all rail station waiting rooms owned and operated by NJ Transit will be open extended hours, including evenings and  overnight through Thursday," according to NJ Transit's Facebook page.

In addition, systemwide cross-honoring is in effect today (Tuesday) through the end of service tomorrow, Wednesday,  allowing customers to use their NJ TRANSIT tickets/passes on an alternate NJT mode - rail, bus, light rail - for travel to their final destination.

Last night, some school districts, faced with the deep freeze forecasts, decided to call for a delayed opening this morning.

Road reports include lane closures for scheduled construction through 6 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway in Wall for the shoulder widening project. Current road conditions can be found here.

Check out live cameras showing conditions at Manasquan Inlet and at mile 89 on the Garden State Parkway.
