Motorcyclist Injured In Route 9 Crash Facing Drunk Driving Charges

Further investigation into crash revealed it was a one-vehicle accident, not a hit-and-run, police said

A Forked River man will be charged with drunk driving and multiple other charges in connection with a Sunday motorcycle accident at the intersection of Route 9 and Jones Road, police said.

"While the investigation is continuing, police have determined alcohol was a factor in the crash," Officer Robert Flynn wrote in a report released late today.

Robert Kovacs, 51, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune following the accident.

Police followed up on reports that a white, four-door BMW may have fled the scene after the 6:38 p.m. accident. But they located the car after further investigation and found no damage to the vehicle, Police Chief David A. Paprota told Lacey Patch earlier today.

"With the help of the public based on the alert posted through the police department website, officers located the BMW reported to have been at the scene," Paprota said. "It was evident the motorcycle had not collided with the BMW before the operator of the motorcycle lost control and crashed."
