Man Found In Woods With Head Injury Later Arrested On Outstanding Warrants

A Lanoka Harbor man was treated for a head injury before Lacey police arrested him on several outstanding warrants, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

John Sabie, 28, Birch Road, was arrested on a $1,000 criminal warrant out of Toms River and a $250 Newark traffic warrant at 12:15 p.m. on June 10, after he was treated at Community Medical Center in Toms River, the chief said.

Sabie's girlfriend, Laura Mooney, Burr Street, Barnegat, called 911 at 4:02 a.m. to report that Sabie was unconscious in the woods between Cedar Drive and the Bayberry development in Lanoka Harbor, the chief said.

Mooney told police that Rocco Selig, 51, Cedar Drive, provided her with the information.  Officers attempted to make contact with Mooney again, but she did not answer her phone and did not come to police headquarters, Paprota said.

Officers searched the wooded area for several hours but were not able to locate Sabie. They spoke with Selig, who denied making the phone call to Laura Mooney and denied knowing Sabie.

Later in the day, Selig called Lacey police to report that he had found Sabie and walked him to the end of Cedarwood Drive in Lanoka Harbor. Police responded to the scene and confirmed that the subject was Sabie, Paprota said.

Sabie was turned over to Toms River police at the hospital, the chief said.
