Male Airlifted to Hospital After Flipping Car on GSP

Two lanes were temporarily closed as first responders were on the scene

A 50-year-old male was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center after his vehicle over-turned four times on the Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township, state police said.

Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at milepost 74.3 southbound at approximately 5:28 p.m.

A white Ford F150 operated by the male in the middle lane flipped after he attempted to pass a maroon Jeep traveling in the left lane.

As the white Ford entered the left lane, it side swept the jeep causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles.

The Jeep ran off the road to the left and came to a stop on the grass. The Ford pickup overturned across the highway approximately four times and came to a rest on the right shoulder facing the wrong direction.

The driver of the Ford was extricated by the Forked River Fire Department and transported to the Department of Public Works by Lacey EMS where MONOC 1 flew him to the hospital for precautionary measures.

A trooper said earlier that the male sustained a minor head injury. Police declined to release his name.

The driver of the Jeep reported no injuries.

Two lanes of the Parkway were temporarily closed while responders were on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
