Lanoka Harbor Man Indicted in Assault

Indictments handed up by the Ocean County grand jury

A Lanoka Harbor man has been indicted by an Ocean County grand jury on counts of assault and criminal mischief in connection with a

Nico T. Morgan of Lanoka Harbor was indicted on a count of third-degree aggravated assault, a count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and a count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He allegedly hit Brett Ekelmann with a 2x4 and damaged Ekelmann's property as well in the incident.

Morgan was released on $50,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Also indicted by the grand jury:

  • Paul R. Clifton Jr., on counts of theft, dealing in stolen property and criminal mischief, in Toms River and Waretown. 

Clifton is alleged to have taken 300 feet of copper wire from Kelly Kilowatt Electrical Contractors in Toms River on June 7, and then selling it in Waretown. He also is alleged to have caused more than $2,000 in damage to Toms River Police Department equipment on June 8. He was released on a summons.

Clifton was also for allegedly breaking into the Barnegat business and stealing company items.

  • William Shelby of Forked River, on a count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, for allegedly having heroin in Lacey on Feb. 2. He additionally was indicted on a count of obstructing the administration of law on that same date in Lacey. He was released on a summons.

Shelby was one of six who was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia after police conducted a Clairmore Avenue
