Lacey Township Committee Lauds Police Chief For Anti-Drug Efforts

Prescription drug drop-off box in police department lobby available any day, any time

Police Chief David A. Paprota doesn't mess around when it comes to the drug epidemic.

His implementation of the prescription drug drop-off box last year was one of the many weapons in his arsenal.

"It's been pretty successful," Paprota said at a recent Township Committee meeting. "Over 1,000 pounds have been collected.

The next National Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day is slated for April 26. But anyone can take advantage of the drop-off box- located in the lobby of the police department - any day.

"We've got a very important day coming up," the chief said.  But remember that Lacey does it everyday. You go there, you drop the pills off."

The secure drop-box was one of the first measures Paprota made happen when he took over as chief.

Township Committee members lauded Paprota's "no tolerance" drug policy.

"We are really working as one unit in this community, Township Committeeman David Most said. "You guys have made such an impact on this community. We are so far ahead of other communities."

The drop-off box in the lobby of the police department is currently one of six in Ocean County. But Paprota said he expects that number to grow.
