Lacey Police Will Beef Up Drunk Driving Details, Checkpoints For Rest Of 2014, Chief Says

Lacey police will be stepping up efforts to catch drunk drivers, including assigning more officers to more checkpoints and details, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

"The Lacey Township Police Department will be participating in special DUI enforcement details through the remainder of the year," the chief said.

Officers will be assigned to Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund (DDEF) details on varying days and times and take part in inter-jurisdictional drunk driving and drug checkpoints, Paprota said.

"Prevention and deterrence are the primary objective of the special details," Paprota said. "Our officers who are specially trained Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) will be regularly assigned as an essential element of the enforcement details."

The expenses for the details are funded through a special grant from the fines assessed through DUI convictions, he said.
