Lacey Police Warn About Scams Involving Phones And Computers

Several  residents of Lacey Township have recently been targeted in a scam involving their home telephones and personal computers, police said.

Several residents have reported being contacted on their home telephone by a person claiming to be a computer technician. The supposed “computer technician” is advising the victims that they have a virus on their computer, and that if they pay a fee ranging from $199 to $399, the "technician" will clear the virus from their computers by accessing it from a remote location.

The victims that have paid the fee with a personal credit card and allowed the suspect to access their computers, have experienced further fraudulent activity against their on-line bank accounts.
