Lacey Police: Prepare For Worst Before Storm Hits

Township department 'actively monitoring' path of Sandy, will use emergency communications system to get word out

Lacey police Capt. David A. Paprota has released the following statement on the department's preparation for Hurricane Sandy:

"The Lacey Township Police Department is actively monitoring the path of Hurricane Sandy. We have taken steps to ensure the operational readiness of emergency equipment as well as ensured the availability of personnel throughout the storm.

"Residents are strongly encouraged to begin preparing for the likelihood that the storm may affect Lacey Township. All yard furniture and otherwise loose items commonly left outside must be properly secured. It is highly recommended that residents begin to plan for the possibility of having to evacuate should the storm directly impact this area.

"Planning must include the possibility that power may be out in the area for extended periods of time. Although shelters will be designated throughout Ocean County by emergency management, if an emergency is declared, residents are encouraged to make their own arrangements in advance of the storm for alternative housing. Likewise family plans should include a means of transportation and basic essentials packed and ready to go.

"It is yet unknown exactly what path the storm is going to take. The Lacey Township Police Department will utilize the emergency communications system to make a township-wide announcement as more conclusive weather reports and timelines are available."
