Lacey Police: Man Armed With Knife Attempted to Rob Convenience Store

K9 units assisting in search for suspect

Lacey police were continuing their search Monday night for a man they say attempted to rob a Lacey Road convenience store with a knife.

Township police were called to the Country Farms at 336 Lacey Road at 5:16 p.m. Monday, according to Lt. Michael DiBella.

An investigation revealed that a man entered the store and confronted the employee with a knife and demanded money. The employee, DiBella said, did not provide the money and the suspect soon fled on foot toward Briggs Avenue North in Forked River.

The suspect is described as being a white male in his late teens to early twenties, approximately 5-foot-8, with a stocky build and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black and gray plaid or checkered sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and dark sneakers.

There were no reported injuries during the incident, DiBella said.

Both the Ocean County Sheriff's Department K9 unit and Criminalistics Investigation Unit responded to the scene to assist. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert Surtees of the Lacey Township Police Department at 609-693-6636 ext. 2572.
