Lacey Man Arrested On Stafford DWI Charges After Damaged Mailboxes Found

A 26-year-old Lacey man was arrested recently on DWI charges after mailboxes were found damaged in Stafford Township, police said.

On March 25, at approximately 11:38 p.m., Officer Smithman responded to a report of a Black Cadillac CTS hitting a mailbox in the area of Coral Lane. While canvassing the area, Officer Smithman located the vehicle traveling North on Lighthouse Drive.

This vehicle made a left onto Atlantis Avenue where a traffic stop was made with both vehicles coming to a stop on Academy Lane. Investigation at the scene revealed the driver, Michael Dibrienza, 26 years old, of Forked River, to be allegedly driving while intoxicated.

While on scene, multiple calls were received referencing damaged mailboxes in the Ocean Acres section of Manahawkin. Dibrienza was brought back to police headquarters for processing, while Officer McKenna investigated the damage.

Investigation revealed that the driver, Dibrienza, and his passenger, Robert Tampone, damaged several mailboxes by physically knocking them over, police said. Dibrienza was issued multiple MV Summonses along with DWI, as well as being issued a Complaint Summons for Criminal Mischief.

Officer Smithman was the arresting officer.Mr. Tampone was arrested by Officer Wade in the morning of March 26 and was also charged with Criminal Mischief.
