Lacey Man Arrested On Burglary Charges, Connected To Local Break-Ins

A 41-year-old Lacey man has been arrested on burglary charges in connection the reported break-ins in the township and elsewhere, police said.

Ned Berwanger of Lanoka Harbor was charged with burglary, theft, and fraudulent use of credit cards.

The arrest came after detectives of the Lacey Township Police Department executed a search warrant at 841 Hanley Street in Lanoka Harbor during the evening hours of Tuesday.

The search warrant came as a result of a five-week investigation into dozens of car burglaries throughout Lacey Township extending back to November of 2013 through this past week (1/10/14).

During the search warrant, detectives seized dozens of pieces of personal property believed to be the illegal proceeds of car burglaries committed in Lacey Township as well as elsewhere in Ocean County.

The five-week investigation began as a concern of drug distribution from 841 Hanley Street and led to the inclusion of burglary offenses as a focus of the investigation.

Berwanger was committed to the Ocean County Correctional Facility with bail set at $100,000 no 10 percent option.

Due to the complexity of the investigation and the need for considerable follow-up, the investigation will continue and additional charges will be prepared in the days and weeks to come.

The Lacey Township Police Department thanks the public for submitting anonymous "crime tips" related to this case through the Police Department website over the past five weeks.
