Lacey Cops: Two Heroin Overdoses in 40 Minutes

Both overdose victims were taken to area hospitals

The same week that Camden County authorities put out a warning on heroin after seeing five overdoses in a day, Lacey police dealt with two overdoses in a period of 40 minutes.

The first occurred Thursday at 11:54 p.m., when officers responded to a Beach Boulevard residence in Forked River for a reported drug overdose. When they arrived, a syringe was located in the unconscious subject’s shoe, police said in a release.

The victim, whose name was not released, was treated by paramedics and transported to Community Medical Center by the Lacey Township First Aid Squad.

About 40 minutes later, at 12:35 a.m., township police responded to a Bay Way residence in Lanoka Harbor for a report of a separate drug overdose.

In that case, a 27-year-old person, whose name was not released, was found unconscious on the floor of the screened-in porch. Officers administered first aid until the arrival of the paramedics.

A second person at the scene turned over an empty syringe and three empty wax folds of heroin. The victim was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center by the Lacey Township First Aid Squad with paramedics.

Last Friday, Patch reported on a recent rash of heroin deaths in Ocean County, by then up to 89 in 2013, and how heroin is getting more potent – and more unpredictable – in the area.
