Forked River Man Charged With Criminal Mischief for Graffiti Damage

Police: Graffiti cost township, businesses more than $2,200 in damages

Zachary McKay, 22, of Forked River was arrested and charged with 12 counts of criminal mischief for allegedly causing more than $2,200 in graffiti damage throughout Lacey Township, Lt. James Veltri said in a press release.

According to Veltri, the damage consisted of graffiti painted in black spray paint with the word “Sine” and statement “Free Your Mind.”

McKay allegedly caused $1026.42 in damage to the exterior of buildings owned by Lacey Township including Hebrew Park, South Dock, Cedar Creek Beach, and the township-owned boardwalk and guardrail located at the end of Laurel Boulevard, Veltri said.

McKay also allegedly caused another $1221.45 in damage to area businesses, Veltri said.

At the Lacey Mall, graffiti was painted on the rear wall of Blockbuster, a storage trailer at ShopRite, and four dumpsters.

At Laurel Plaza, graffiti was found on the south side of the building, a rear door, and a dumpster.

Graffiti also was found on an Ocean County bridge located on Cedar Avenue near Lake Barnegat Drive North in Lanoka Harbor as well as a freestanding wooden wall located behind the Home Depot.

Township employees and local business owners removed some of the graffiti while other locations require professional repairs, Veltri said.
