Forked River Man Charged With Lacey Liquors Burglary

Police: Store sustained $900 in damage from forced entry

The Lacey Township Police Department arrested a Forked River man on a charge of burglarizing Lacey Liquors on Route 9 in Forked River.

Michael J. Cannito, 18, of Forked River was arrested after the police department searched for a suspect who broke into Lacey Liquors and stole five bottles of alcohol, each valued over $100.

The police at the store at approximately 10:53 p.m. April 4.

Bottles of alcohol were found strewn in the parking lot, and one of the doors of the store had been shattered.

The police, along with a K-9 team from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, searched the surrounding area.

Additional bottles were found in the woods.

Three of the five bottles of alcohol were recovered.

As a result of the forced entry, the store sustained approximately $900 in damage.

Cannito was arrested on April 5 and charged with burglary, theft of movable property, criminal mischief and possession of alcohol in a public place. He was sent to jail with his bail set at $20,000, with no 10 percent option.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) also assisted the Lacey Township Police Department.
