A residence on Conifer Drive sustains water and smoke damage after early morning fire

A residence on Conifer Drive in Forked River sustained damage after a fire extended throughout the home. No injuries were reported.

The Lanoka Harbor Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire at 515 Conifer Drive at 3:05 a.m., Chief Jack Amrozewicz said.

All occupants got out of the house as soon as they saw smoke and are uninjured, Amrozewicz said.

Smoke was coming out of the front door when the fire department arrived. They used a fire extinguisher and water line, knocking down the fire within 15 minutes, Amrozewicz said.

After the department declared the fire was under control, they noticed snippets of flames coming from the roof, Amrozewicz said.

The residence did not have an attic or a crawl space so a unit proceeded to the roof and cut an 8 by 6 foot hole to reach the flames, Amrozewicz said.

The fire was declared out at approximately 5:10 a.m. and the fire department cleared the scene by 5:40 a.m.

The fire is believed to have originated in the water heater area of the home and travelled up the wall, Amrozewicz said.

The residence sustained smoke and water damage and is currently not livable.

The Forked River Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the fire. Station 17 from Bayville was on standby for the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department.

The fire is under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal.
