Cops: Shoplifter Fled Walmart, But Left Her Passport Behind

Local woman also had warrants out of several jurisdictions, authorities say

A Manchester woman returning stolen items to the Lacey Walmart store left her passport behind when she fled after being approached by store security officers, police said.

Shannon M. Trott, 32, was ultimately charged with hindering apprehension, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and a slew of traffic summonses and warrants when she was arrested Oct. 8 just afternoon 12 p.m.

Police say Trott was on the radar of Walmart security officers for items she allegedly stole from the big box store's Manahawkin location. When she showed up in Lacey to return the items for cash, she reportedly fled the store after being approached by security staff, leaving behind her passport which she used for identification at the courtesy desk to return the stolen items. The passport was later turned over to police for identification purposes.

Trott was apprehended when Officer John Simonson spotted her blue Honda Civic being driven in a reckless manner, a statement from police said.

The items that were stolen from Manahawkin Walmart store included a 21-inch piece of luggage valued at $49 and a two piece comforter bed set valued at $34.96; the theft totaled $83.96.

Trott had several outstanding warrants for her arrest, police said, from Manchester, Cherry Hill, Lumberton and Pemberton. She was also issued traffic summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, failure to wear seatbelt, and driving while suspended.

She remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge Damian Murray.
