UPDATE: Cops: Car Burglar Damaged More Than He Stole

A car burglar added insult to injury in the taking of $200 worth of clothing from a Chrysler Sebring convertible.

The thief cut the soft top roof of the vehicle, causing about $2,000 in damage, all to steal a women's gym bag and the clothes and combination lock it contained – all worth about $200.

The burglary happened between 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13, according to township police, on Easy Street in Forked River.

Officers took a report of a second vehicle burglary on Monday, this time to an unlocked vehicle that was parked on Normandie Drive in Forked River.

Stolen from the vehicle was a Garmin Novi 260 GPS, valued at $260, police said. The theft was said to take place sometime between 10 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 13.
