Ocean County Man Allegedly Drives Into Church, Causes $20,000 In Damage

A 54-year-old Berkeley man was charged with criminal mischief this week after he drove his car into St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, police said.

Daniel Hormann, 54, of Northumberland Drive, Holiday City, also was charged with defacement of private property following the incident, police said.

Hormann attempted to drive his vehicle through four separate entrances and drove over several signs and fences in the process. He attempted to drive through three garage doors at a separate building on the property, police said.

Bail for Hormann was set at $50,000 cash after he was lodge in the Ocean County Jail.  Ptl. David Moody, Ptl. Edward Hendrickson and Sgt. Damon Papa responded to the initial call.  Det. Joe Santoro is conducting the follow up investigation.
